O piloto espanhol Carlos Sainz, de 61 anos, garantiu esta sexta-feira o triunfo na 46.ª edição do rali Dakar de todo-o-terreno, vencendo assim o seu quarto Dakar e o primeiro aos comandos de um veículo híbrido da Audi.
Na Arábia Saudita, onde mais uma vez se realizou este ano o Rali Dakar, Carlos Sainz superiorizou-se aos demais pilotos em prova ao fim das 12 etapas, deixando atrás de si, na segunda posição, o belga Guillaume de Mevius, em Toyota, e o francês Sébastien Loeb em Prodrive no terceiro posto a fechar o pódio.
Carlos Sainz repetiu assim as vitórias conseguidas em 2010, 2018 e 2020, tornando-se no primeiro piloto a vencer a prova por quatro marcas diferentes, respectivamente aos comandos de máquinas da Volkswagen, Peugeot, Mini e Audi. Sainz entra ainda para a história do Dakar como o piloto mais velho a vencer aquele que é tido como o rali mais duro do Mundo.
Nota ainda para o triunfo da Audi, com um RS Q e-tron, uma vitória que é conseguida na edição em que a Audi se despede do Dakar, isto porque a marca germânica irá apontar todas as suas energias na área desportiva na entrada da Audi na Fórmula 1, a categoria rainha do desporto automóvel.

Sobre a forma como decorreu esta prova, Carlos Sainz esteve na frente de quase todo o Dakar na sua 46ª edição, percorrido totalmente na Arábia Saudita, vindo a terminar a prova com uma vantagem clara de 01h20min25s para Guillaume de Mevius, em Overdrive Toyota. Curiosamente, Carlos Sainz vence o Dakar sem ter vencido qualquer etapa, acabando por assinar uma vitória da consistência numa prova em que foi quem errou menos e soube por isso tirar o melhor partido de uma prova sem dúvida regular.
Refira-se ainda assim que Carlos Sainz começou o Dakar claramente com o pé esquerdo, isto porque logo no Prólogo teve alguns problemas terminando o primeiro dia na 48ª posição. O certo é que a partir dali recuperou o tempo perdido e rapidamente entrou na luta pelo triunfo.
O principal rival de Carlos Sainz na luta pelo triunfo foi o francês Sebastien Loeb, piloto nove vezes campeão do mundo de ralis rodou sempre de Sainz e só mesmo quando Loeb foi afectado por problemas no seu carro é que Carlos Sainz conseguiu avançar de forma firme para a vitória sem contestação.

Carlos Sainz pôde contar ao longo da prova com o apoio dos seus companheiros de equipa na Audi, Mattias Ekstrom e Stephane Peterhansel, seus companheiros na Audi que, depois de alguns problemas que os afastaram da frente da classificação, puderam concentrar esforços na ajuda a Carlos Sainz para a conquista deste tetra no Dakar.
Ao invés, Sebastien Loeb não conseguiu ajuda na sua prova já que o seu companheiro de equipa na Prodrive e vencedor da edição do ano passado, Nasser Al-Attiyah, abandonou a prova bem cedo.
